Alan Hepburn MCIOB MAPM

Managing Partner

Alan is a Chartered Builder and member of the APM and an experienced Project Manager. He has a proven track record of delivery, strong leadership skills and a clear ability to drive a project forward. He has worked on projects across many sectors so can deal with challenges irrespective of the scale, location and nature of the project.

Stephen Brown BSc (Hons) MRICS


Stephen has been a partner in private practice since 1989 and has extensive experience in all aspects of client management, service delivery, new business development and team management. Stephen delivers financially viable schemes to clients looking at potential projects. His strong, personal approach challenges presented proposals to achieve the most effective outcomes. His experience includes:  Sport and Leisure (wet and dry), health and social careCommercial offices, residential and mixed use master planning, industrial facilities, student accommodation, schools and further and higher education.

Mark Howard MCIOB


Mark is a Chartered Construction Manager. His strength is his ability to remain focused on the primary project goal. He has experience across a wide range of education, student accommodation, healthcare and science / research projects, both new build and refurbishment. Mark is also a great team builder, bringing people together and working closely with them individually to ensure everything is delivered on time. Practical and innovative, Mark has an in-depth understanding of integrating IT systems with construction projects.

Alex J. Walker MRICS


Alex is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with considerable experience in construction costs and management. A highly effective communicator, he interacts directly with clients and design team members at all levels. Alex brings an excellent working knowledge of contemporary and historic construction materials and techniques to the team. He is a lateral thinker and active team player who produces realistic cost projections and enhances projects, both in terms of minimising cost and maximising potential for clients.

Maurice Land BA, FCA

Partner, Finance

A Chartered Accountant, Maurice has been a Partner in national and regional professional practices. As part of the REAL Consulting team, he advises on the finances of the practice and is responsible for the financial records and other matters. Maurice is responsible for the finance functions within the practice.

Dale Bunting BSc (Hons) MRICS


Dale is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor who achieved professional status in 2006. He has an eye for detail and communicates effectively with clients and design team members, focusing on overall client requirements. Dale has worked on refurbishment and new build projects in sectors including; educational, residential (private and affordable), sports and leisure.

Richard Postance BSc (Hons) MRICS


Richard started his career in 2004, becoming a Chartered Quantity Surveyor in 2010. He became a project manager in 2011 working in health, science, industrial, commercial and education sectors. In 2013 he worked as a Contracts Administrator within the oil and gas and renewables industry. Richard is an excellent communicator with a keen eye for detail and integrates well into any team. He takes a pragmatic approach to problem solving, resolving matters quickly and effectively.

Louis Scott BA (Hons) MSc MRICS


Louis is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with extensive experience across the residential, commercial, healthcare, education, leisure and infrastructure sectors. He holds a Masters degree in Construction Cost Management and is a graduate of both the University of Reading and University of East Anglia. Louis spent part of his career working for a sustainable property developer specialising in large, mixed-use schemes throughout the UK. He has an in-depth knowledge of the development process from feasibility through to construction and marketing. Louis develops strong relationships with project teams and is a clear communicator with the ability to maintain focus on Clients’ priorities at all times.


Julian Giles BSc MRICS

Senior Project Surveyor

Julian is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with 35 years’ experience in the construction industry, primarily in private practice, covering many different sectors. His approach to cost management is methodical and comprehensive, benefiting from his experience. Pre-contract cost planning and procurement is a particular specialism. An enthusiastic team player, Julian is a clear and effective communicator. With his professional oversight in place, clients and design team members can focus on delivering the brief.

Sue Marshall-Nichols

Business Development Manager

Sue joined REAL Consulting in August 2018. Sue has over 35 years’ experience in the construction industry within the East Anglian region and is responsible for Business Development and Office Management.

Paul Hamilton ACIOB AAPM


Paul joined the team in September 2020 and is an experienced Project Manager having worked throughout his career in both the consulting and contracting world. Paul’s experience spans across many sectors including large scale national and regional projects such as the London 2012 Olympic Overlay, Retail, Commercial, Health, Residential, Science & Research, Education, Industrial, Arts, Infrastructure, Data, Care & Palliative Care. Paul is proud of his proven track record and delivers projects in a collaborative manner with a strong and passionate leadership style that succeeds by building relationships through developing trust throughout a project’s delivery team.

Tom Alves BSc (Hons)

Graduate Quantity Surveyor

Tom joined the REAL Consulting team in October 2021 after completion of his 5-year part-time degree in Construction Management. During this time, Tom worked as an assistant site manager for a property developer based in Essex. This gave Tom 5 years’ hands-on experience in the industry, providing him with a detailed understanding of construciton technologies, invaluable in developing his career as a quantity surveyor and cost consultant.

His experience has given him exposure to all aspects of the project lifecycle and to build relationships with a variety of stakeholders and project team members.

Tom will be assisting the REAL Consulting team to deliver all aspects of their cost management service delivery. This includes; measurement, estimating and cost planning, procurement advice, tender management and post-contract cost control.

Tom is working towards his professional RICS accreditation, supported by the wider REAL Consulting team.

Scott Morgan

Project Surveyor

Scott joined REAL Consulting in October 2023 bringing with him a wealth of experience in management. He has successfully delivered projects across a wide range of sectors, including industrial and commercial and has had a keen focus on budget management and delivery and has strong interpersonal skills, communicating effectively and professionally at all levels.
